For decades or more the US has been going around the globe as an arbiter of democracy….and in all those years it has been a lie! The US has propped up many more dictators and autocrats than the old USSR ever did……all in the name of democracy.
Let’s look at three years ago when the so-called “Arab Spring” began in Tunisia……the US came out all in favour of the Arab world in following suit and travel that road to democracy…..country after country rose up and autocrats took it on the lamb…..but sadly all the effort of those people feel on deaf years….the US for all their bluster backed the next autocrat that gamed to system to take power…..so their diatribe about democracy was all a show.
Most recently the Palestinians brought a petition to the UN about recognizing Palestine…….of course the Israelis went batcrap crazy and turned to their lap dog to stop the insanity of a Palestinian state…..the US did as it was told…..
A UN Security council resolution on Palestinian statehood by 2017 has failed, with 8 votes in favor, one short of the nine needed for passage. Even then, the vote wasn’t going through, as the US vetoed it.
The US had promised the veto, and reportedly threatened to sanction the Palestinians for even presenting the doomed bill, which called for Israel to end the occupation by 2017.
Still unclear is the fate of an alternative version proposed by the French government, which is significantly watered down and only calls for the resumption of peace talks in the next two years. Israel is pushing a veto, but the US hasn’t yet made its intentions clear.
The US and especially President Obama has proven once and for all that they are NO friend to the democratic way of governance.
I NEVER want to hear any elected official democracy ever again…..if they do I will be a thorn in their worthless ass….I shall call them out on every turn…..
Israel is said to be “very satisfied”……….
Israel expressed satisfaction on Wednesday after the UN Security Council failed to adopt a controversial resolution on Palestinian statehood setting a 12-month deadline for reaching a final peace deal.
“Every Israeli who wants peace with our neighbours can only be satisfied with the results of this vote,” deputy foreign minister Tzahi HaNegbi told public radio several hours after the resolution failed to pass within the 15-member council.
“This deals a blow to efforts by (Palestinian president) Mahmud Abbas to embarrass and isolate us,” said HaNegbi, a close associate of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Of course they are “satisfied”.……that they can manipulate the world’s most powerful country………they dangle the treat of cash in front of them and the US comes on command and does its tricks for its MASTER!
It is time for NO one country to have VETO power in the UN...Time for a change. The US has proven time and time again that it is NOT a good protector of democracy….time for the UN to do its duty and be the protector of democracy….do it now or close the goddamn doors and go home!
Palestinians do have an alternate road they can travel…..and I think they should pursue it like a Pit Bull with a human leg……
Stung by a resounding defeat in the UN Security Council, the Palestinians announced today that they joined the International Criminal Court to pursue war crimes charges against Israel. The move by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas set the stage for a diplomatic showdown with the United States and was likely to draw an angry response from Israel. Abbas had threatened to join the international court if yesterday’s Security Council resolution failed: The Palestinians had asked the council to set a three-year deadline for Israel to withdraw from all occupied lands claimed by the Palestinians.
“We want to complain,” said Abbas. “There’s aggression against us, against our land. The Security Council disappointed us.” After two decades of failed, on-again, off-again peace talks, the Palestinians have grown disillusioned and have decided to seek international recognition of their independence. While the campaign does not change the situation on the ground, the Palestinians believe strong international support will put pressure on Israel to allow the creation of a Palestinian state in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and east Jerusalem.
But of course if they do pursue this line the US will make them, Palestinians< pay for their boldness……..
The State Department has warned it intends to “review” all aid provided to the Palestinian Authority in the wake of their bid to join the International Criminal Court (ICC), saying the bid would have “implications.”
The US has made it clear they oppose ICC membership for the Palestinians, though there does not seem to be any particular reason for the ICC to deny them membership
What kind of democratic country would PUNISH another country for seeking justice for wrong…..Obama should have bruises from all the Israeli tea-bagging he has taken.
It is time for Israel to stop being the BULLY of the Middle East and move into the 21st century….time for them to become a responsible participant in a MODERN world!
