A Terrorist Diaspora

Diaspora? There is a fancy smancy word for you and a word that will mean absolutely nothing to people that think with their asses…..there have been many such movements in history….especially recent history.

Of course the one that probably gets the most press is the Jewish diaspora…..their reported time in Egypt and then the time after World War Two…….then the Palestinians in the 1940-1970, Cubans of the 1950-60, Vietnamese in the 1970’s and the people of Syria and Iraq in the 2010’s…..there have been many others but these are the first that jump to mind.

But what is Diaspora? The official definition…..

Diaspora means “to scatter” in Greek, but today we use the term to describe a community of people who live outside their shared country of origin or ancestry but maintain active connections with it.

A diaspora includes both emigrants and their descendants. While some people lose their attachment to their ancestral homeland, others maintain a strong connection to a place which their ancestors may have left generations ago. Many Americans come from mixed heritage and therefore can claim membership in multiple diaspora communities.

a group of people who live outside the area in which they had lived for a long time or in which their ancestors lived…

the movement, migration, or scattering of a people away from an established or ancestral homeland b: people settled far from their ancestral homelands

I bring up this subject because all the world’s hawks are telling the population that it is only a matter of time before the barbarous group known as ISIS will be defeated….but the truth is that ISIS can be defeated but the terror will continue….why?

Don’t expect terror attacks to end with the Islamic State’s defeat in Iraq and Syria. Though that defeat is on the horizon, “through the fingers of that crush are going to come hundreds of really dangerous people and they are going to flow primarily to Western Europe” and possibly into the US, FBI chief James Comey says, per the New York Times. It will be “a terrorist diaspora out of Syria like we’ve never seen before,” he adds, per Bloomberg. “A lot of terrorists fled out of Afghanistan in the late 1980s and early 1990s. This is 10 times that or more.

John Kerry announced last week that ISIS has been driven from almost 50% of its territory in Iraq and 20% of its territory in Syria. But “not all of the Islamic State killers are going to die on the battlefield,” says Comey, speaking from the International Conference on Cyber Security in New York. Future attacks inspired or carried out by ISIS—especially lone-wolf attacks that are “increasingly hard” to stop—are “the greatest threat to the physical safety of Americans today” and will be “an order of magnitude greater than anything we’ve seen before.” Europe has gotten a look at that reality with the attacks in Brussels and Paris, he adds. But as for the US, “that challenge is going to come.”

All the remaining fighters will disperse and most likely continue the terror from wherever they land.

Comey likened it to the post-Mujaheddin situation in Afghanistan around 1989-1990, which led to the formation of al-Qaeda and a huge influx of seasoned Islamist fighters into conflicts the world over. Comey warned this situation would be “10 times that or more.”

Then what ?

The spin by Washington is that ISIS has lost about 50% of its territory and is on the road to a defeat….if this is accurate then maybe a plan should be formulated that would take into consideration the influx of fighters after the fall.

A recent paper by a friend at Bar-Ilan University also covers this topic…..

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The West should seek the further weakening of Islamic State, but not its destruction. A weak but functioning IS can undermine the appeal of the caliphate among radical Muslims; keep bad actors focused on one another rather than on Western targets; and hamper Iran’s quest for regional hegemony.

I know that most Americans like a win-win scenario….but when it comes to terrorism there is no such thing.
